Musicians

Laura Risk and Nicholas Williams

A Capital Weekend kicks off with Laura Risk and Nicholas Williams from Montreal and Quebec playing for the Friday Welcome Dance. Laura, who is an exciting, high energy, and extremely accomplished Scottish fiddler, learned her art from Alasdair Fraser and has gone on to perform in many of the world’s premium venues including the Kennedy Center and the Barbican in London. Nicholas Williams, who is deeply involved in the music circles of Quebec and New England and often teams with Laura, is an accomplished musician in his own right, specializing in piano, flute, and accordion as well as other instruments. Together, they will provide an exciting beginning to our weekend!

Dave Wiesler

Dave Wiesler will join Laura and Nicholas on Saturday night for the Capital Ball. A former Washington area resident, Dave is noted for his innovative and rhythmic piano playing and his deep knowledge of Scottish dance music. Since Nicholas is equally adept at piano, flute, and accordion and since Dave also plays guitar, expect some different musical textures throughout the evening as they trade around on instruments to complement Laura’s driving and subtle Scottish fiddling.
